What is Chiropody?

The human foot is a complex structure made up of 28 bones, and many joints, ligaments and tendons that interact to propel us through our daily lives. Much is taken for granted until something becomes painful or inhibits our mobility. This, unfortunately, can happen at any age. Chiropodists play a vital role in your foot health whether the issues are related to fungal infections, warts, calluses, corns. Chiropodists also treat more involved issues relating to osteoarthritis, biomechanical issues, nerve involvement or complications resulting from diabetes or inflammatory arthritis.

"The practice of Chiropody is the assessment of the foot and the treatment and prevention of diseases, disorders or dysfunctions of the foot." (Bill 45, 1991)

Our fully qualified Chiropodists may:

  • Cut into subcutaneous tissues of the foot
  • Administer substances into the feet by injection
  • Prescribe drugs

Chiropodial medicine serves a vital role in the treatment of foot dysfunction, which in turn affects the well being, mobility and independence of an individual.
